Callsheets are a dying art. Unfortunately, many productions are no longer sending out callsheets, and when they do they are sending them last minute. But, that’s better than nothing. Here’s why you should use callsheets.
Callsheet: noun, a PDF, word document or spreadsheet that hosts all the production information you need for the job. The basic info includes shoot date, time, location, calltime, crew names and their contact info. May include driving directions, parking instructions, client info, emergency info (like the closest hospital), the weather forecast and any other pertinent information you should know. Photoshoots are made up of many, fast-moving parts and one of the best ways to keep everyone on board is by centralizing infomation. The callsheet does that. It gets everyone one the same page ahead of the shoot. Some callsheets include the schedule and shot list. Others, just the basic info of when and where to show up.
Callsheets help you stay organized on your current shoot and help you stay organzied for future shoots. Callsheets are a great reference point for when you are producing your next shoot and need a quick reference of who your crew was in the past, locations, rental houses or other info that can be on the callsheet.
